What can you expect to get with your scrap?

Scrap prices refer to the money one can get for the type of metal they give to a scrap yard.  There are differences in scrap prices depending on what has to be done. For instance, in general a scrap yard will sell bulk metals by weight. The prices that the scrap yard sell the weight for are normally at prices that are below the purchasing cost of comparable items. It is important to keep in mind that scrap yards will sell by weight, which differs than what wreckers will do. Wreckers on the other hand will sell by item, which will be present in the scrap price. In the end the value of the scrap is not the shape the metal is in, but rather what the smelter is willing to give for it.
